Video Transcript

On today's quick fix video, we're going to show you how to replace your power door lock switches as well as your power door lock window switch bezels on your '87 through '93 Fox Body Mustang.

These bezels will fit your '87 through '93 coupe or hatchback equipped with power windows and power locks. A convertible version is available, which will have two additional cutouts for the rear windows located there. They are side specific with two window cutouts on your driver's side and a single on the passenger's side. Your locks are also side specific, with the unlock button on the outside and the lock towards the inside.

For this quick fix, you'll need a Phillips head screwdriver, a 1/4 inch ratchet, and a 1/4 inch socket. We're going to install the passenger side on our '90 GT since we've been having some problems with the door lock button not working properly. Both the driver and passenger side install the same way. See when we hit out button our doors aren't unlocking. We know we replaced the actuators recently, so it's probably going to be the switch. We're going to replace that first.

Not only is our switch bad, you can see there's a crease in our plate as well. This seems to be a common problem with these cars if these aren't installed properly. We're going to start by removing this Phillips head screw. Now we're going to pull out and then lift up, take the clip off the bottom and then pull it all the way out of your door.

The switches are held to this switch plate by these two Phillips head screws. We're going to remove those next. Then we're going to separate the plate from the switches. Removing the old switch is easy. Just grab the sides and pull it straight off. Now we'll slide the new switch on slide it up press it into place and now we can check our door locks. Everything works perfectly. Time to install the cover plate.

The new cover plate comes with a new mounting tab. It does not come with hardware so you have to remove these two screws off the original to install on the new one. Install the new piece. Make sure the edge is facing up when you install it, and we're ready to install.

Install our cover plate over our switches and we'll reinstall the two screws. Then the last step is reinstalling the door panel. Lift the tab in at the bottom, seat it properly and reinstall the screw and your quick fix is finished. There it is: a simple fix to a common problem. If your window switch goes out, the installation is exactly the same. Overall it will take you no more than about five minutes.
