1965 Mustang Data Plate and VIN Decoder

One of the best pieces of information for making this task more manageable is knowing what parts your '65 model had right from the factory. Need help finding this information? You're in luck! All you need are your Mustang's VIN and data plate (or door tag). The data plate can tell you what body style, color code, trim, axle ratio, and transmission your '65 Mustang was produced with. The VIN gives you the engine code.
The information you get from your Mustang's VIN and data plate will help you restore it to its original state, and tell you whether the current parts on your Mustang are original.

1965 Mustang VIN Number Location
The easiest place to find the VIN for your 1965 Mustang is under the hood on the driver's side fender apron. If the VIN is not visible there, you might find a second one just underneath the fender.
1965 Mustang Data Plate Location
The data plate is found attached to the inside of the driver's side door and contains the vehicle's VIN as well. The top line of the data plates displays the categories of codes that are able to be decoded. These categories are: body, color, trim, date, DSO, axle ratio, and transmission.
