This year’s Mustang came with huge changes to many 1996 Ford Mustang parts. After almost 40 years, the 302 V-8 was retired and replaced with a new 4.6 liter “modular” V-8. These new 1996 Mustang parts in the GT made the same power as the outgoing V-8, and ended up being slightly slower than the old engine. However, the new 96 Mustang parts were smoother and quieter than the old engine, and could meet emissions requirements, which the old V-8 couldn’t any longer.
