Hooker Long Tube Headers 1-5/8" Competition Black 289/302 1965-1973/351W 1967-1973 is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fit Fit a 1970 Mustang with a 302 and a manual transmission perfectly. Cleared the clutch z-bar on the driver side only needing removal of the z-bar to get the header installed. Cleared the starter on the passenger side without any dimpling. Paired up with a Flowmaster American Thunder exhaust. Has a low rumble at idle and very throaty under acceleration. First bought the Patriot Tri-Y but they could not clear the clutch z-bar without significant modification to the z-bar and also hit the starter, so had to return them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Does NOT fit 1969 with a 351W and a 4 speed As I said I bought these for my 1969 Mach 1 with a 351W and a 4 speed top-loader transmission. The passenger side fit fine but the driver side will not fit with the factory Z-Bar linkage. These headers are the great quality you should expect from Hooker Headers, they just don't work for my specific application. You may be able to get these to work if you have a cable clutch or hydraulic clutch upgrade. I spent 2 weekends trying to make these headers work and couldn't do it. I took the car to a restoration shop and they failed to install them as well. I ended up going with Hooker Header Super Competition part# 6116HKR. They are more expensive but are a better performing header and actually fit a 351W with a manual transmission. *I recommended this product because if you have a 302 or an automatic transmission these will fit perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great towels I bought these headers 6 months ago header on left side to tight need to buy adjustable motor mounts move motor to the right side of engine bay headers fit perfect the factory motor mounts puts the engine to far to the left it's mounts not the headers

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits perfectly I put these one without any problems. I was expecting to do alot more, I didn't have to remove any parts. All I had to do is move the transmission cooling lines out of the way. It literally took more time putting the bolts in than getting them through

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor fit 1966 mustang 289. Had to struggle to get one side on and for the other it still won't line up properly. Had to disconnect a Trans mount and a motor mount and lift the block just to get the thing in there. What's so hard about making sure it clears everything.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesnt fit when i purchased these headers they came to me in poor condition after i called to explain too them, the best they could do was send some paint i then tried too install them on a 351w, not even close even with hammering it out.

Put these on my 67 mustang but I can’t get a socket on most of the spark plugs to tighten. Did I order the wrong ones?

No, they can be tough to get to. Usually you have to use a wrench.

Will these fit my 68 coupe 302 t5 swap cable clutch? I know it says you don’t recommend it with a cable clutch but could I make it work? If not then what long tube headers would you recommend? Thanks

Asked by: Bobby joe
I would recommend shorty headers with a cable clutch or if you are set on long tubes than you should use a hydraulic kit. https://www.cjponyparts.com/modern-driveline-hydraulic-clutch-conversion-kit-t5-tko-1967-1968/p/HCC2/
