Scott Drake Straight Chrome Monte Carlo Bar for 1965-1966 Mustangs.

This bar was developed by Carroll Shelby to stop shock tower flex and maintain proper wheel alignment during hard cornering. This extra support also helps prevent shock tower stress cracks.

Copied from the original design, Scott Drake's bars feature a new thicker diameter tube and improved fender brackets. Also features stamped square holes in the top of each fender bracket to allow for the use of lower profile carriage bolts.

By Bill Tumas: Today we're going to take a closer look at the Monte Carlo Bars from Scott Drake. The Monte Carlo Bar is going to mount between your shock towers designed to stiffen up the front end of your Mustang. Here we have a Scott Drake Monte Carlo Bar in chrome finish. It's also available in a stainless steel, and they do offer a black as well. For comparison's sake, we have a generic black one in the back here.

Looking at the flange on the outside, you can see how this is flat where it's going to mount on top of your shock tower. Where the aftermarket one has a curve to it, isn't going to sit flat without forcing it into place. It's also longer than the Scott Drake pieces again making for a difficult fitment. Taking a closer look, again you can see how the Drake version's flat, versus the bent edge on the reproduction. It also has a proper style hole versus a generic round hole. Taking a closer look at where the bar meets the bracket, see how smoothly and cleanly the Drake versions is, versus how spotty the welding is on the reproduction.

Another really noticeable difference is the weight of the bar itself. The Scott Drake's got a nice heavy weight to it. The standard reproduction is probably half the weight; really, really light. For a part designed to stiffen up your chassis you're definitely going to want a heavier piece up front. The Monte Carlo Bar is an excellent way to stiffen up the front end of your Mustang. It's going to mount to three factory holes on each side or require a fourth hole to be drilled for mounting.
