1992 Mustang Sway Bars

Sway Bars

If you’re looking to improve your Mustang's suspension for better handling, consider installing premium 1992 Mustang Sway Bars. This simple and easy upgrade will add strength and rigidity to the Fox Body chassis, which will greatly improve vehicle handling and cornering. Many vehicles are equipped with a stock front and rear sway bar, including the 1992 Mustang GT. However, base model Mustangs were only equipped with a front sway bar. You may know other Fox Body owners who have added a rear sway bar to their Mustang by snagging the original part off an OEM-equipped junker. Although this is better than nothing, it’s not ideal. Aftermarket 1992 Mustang sway bars will outperform OEM in a number of ways.

1992 Sway Bars

Upgraded 1992 Mustang Sway Bars

The size and thickness of the original 1992 Mustang sway bars varied from vehicle trim level and suspension package. Base model 1992 Mustangs featured a front sway bar with a thickness of .79 inches, while premium suspension equipped Mustangs featured a front sway bar thickness of 1.30 inches and rear sway bar of .94 inches. These 1992 Mustang sway bars were manufactured out of SAE 1090 and SAE 5160 steel.

By comparison, premium aftermarket sway bars are often made of tubular or solid cold-formed, high-strength aircraft-grade steel and measure as thick 1.75 inches. A high quality sway bar will be manufactured with a phosphate undercoat and protective powder coat finish to help reduce rust and corrosion. The end result of this high quality material and construction is a stronger sway bar that outperforms the original.

A tubular sway bar is an ideal replacement for the front sway bar in a 1992 Mustang. The tubular design helps to reduce weight in the heavy front end. Installing a solid sway bar in the rear will not only stiffen and strengthen the Mustang chassis, but it will also add weight to the back end. Overall, this one upgrade helps to distribute vehicle weight more evenly between the front and rear, which in and of itself can improve handling.
