2019 Engine

For 2019, the Mustang offers the choice of an EcoBoost turbo four-cylinder or the more traditional naturally-aspirated V8. The 2.3 liter EcoBoost four-cylinder is capable of achieving the same or better performance when compared to the V6 that was dropped in 2017. It still powers the less expensive Mustang trims, providing an excellent balance of fuel efficiency with acceleration that is very respectable. With 310 hp but achieving 25 MPG combined, it’s never been more practical to add some fun to your commute.

The highly-touted 5.0 liter V8 is the other engine option, propelling the Mustang GT with 460 horses and providing an irresistible exhaust note. This modular engine is favored by both Ford and those who drive them, seeing use in the F-150 line of pickup trucks as well. It uses a unique dual-fuel injection system that works to deliver both low-end torque and high-rpm power.

With the release of the 2019 Bullitt, a new engine format is brought to the Mustang, even though the foundation is still the traditional Coyote V8. In order to differentiate the Bullitt’s performance, a GT350 intake manifold and throttle body, plus upgraded calibration, work to boost total output from 460 to 480 hp. Torque remains that same at 420 lb-ft.

The 2019 California Special package is focused solely on appearance, and so maintains the same engine as all other Mustang GT’s. The performance package front splitter and side scoops add a sporty flair to the exterior, however, which helps to differentiate the overall looks.
