These custom pedal covers are made of billet aluminum with a race inspired look and a better grip over your factory pedals. The driver pedals get installed over top your factory pedal, both the clutch and brake pedal will install onto the factory pedals themselves. All hardware is included and these will fit your 2005 through 2017 Mustang. These are also available for an automatic transmission as well as the stick shift shown here.
For this installation you need a quarter inch ratchet, ten millimeter socket, 5.5 millimeter wrench, 8 millimeter wrench, 2 millimeter Allen key, 3 millimeter Allen key, T-25 Torx bit, marker, center punch, drill right angle preferred, 1/16 drill bit, 1/8 drill bit, 7/32 drill bit and safety glasses.
The installation is pretty straightforward but this is going to be a little bit time consuming. On the clutch and the brake pedal, you're going to remove the factory covers put the new ones in place, mark the holes and drill them out. The gas pedal we find the easiest thing, just unbolt it from the car, it's only two bolts and a plug, take it out and install on the table, save you a lot of time. Unfortunately, I can't be doing the installation I have one good hand. Brendan's going to handle the installation, I'll talk through the process.
Like I mentioned, remove the cover. Just pull down from bottom. Maybe a small pry bar, usually you can get your hands in there though and just pull the covers right off. Now we have the bare pedals, what we're going to do is actually put some tape over the pedals, then we're going to hold up our new Drake Muscle Car Pedals and mark the holes before we drill. Now we'll hold the pedal cover-up and mark the three holes. At the marks made, now we're going to center punch the holes and we'll start with a small pilot fit and drill them out.
Now what we're going to do is we're going to start with a 1/16" a real small bit to get us started, then we're going to go up to an 1/8" bit and then finally the bit we need is 7/32 for the hardware provided.
Okay, with the holes drilled out, now we can install the pedal with the provided hardware. And once you get them tightened up you're going to repeat the process with the brake pedal. Okay with the clutch and brake pedal installed, now like I said we're going to remove the gas pedal from the car, it's pretty simple to remove, it's three bolts and a plug. Then we put the pedal actually on the table, making it much easier to install our gas pedal cover.
Now this is basically the reason we told you to take the pedal assembly out of the car. You gotta remove this screw from the back of the gas pedal to remove the factory pedal so we can install our new pedal from Drake.
Here's where there's a little difference in the kit. The pedals are going to fit 2005 through 2017, these two brackets here will fit your 2005 to 2010 Mustang, these two brackets and this bracket going to be for your 2011 through 2017. So now we're going to assemble the pedal, the pedal itself has a piece of rubber behind it. One thing we're going to do, basically to sit this down in here and use the provided brackets to hold it in place. They go on the bottom like that. Top bracket will go there and the small piece goes over here on the other side.
We're going to start by installing everything loosely, make sure everything is seated properly, then you can tighten it down.
All right, so everything's tightened down it should look like that it's ready to go back in the car.
Okay, once the pedal is installed and everything is tightened down, make sure it's plugged in properly and your installation's finished.
The Shelby Pedal from Drake Muscle Cars added a really nice custom touch to our 2015 GT. They also are nice because they're performance oriented and the raised rings gives much better grip when we're actually driving the car. As far as installation goes, figure about an hour to an hour and a half. It's not terribly hard, it's just a small area to work in but you'll be back on the road in no time.
