License Plate Lamp Lens Mustang 1979-1993

The lights are actually on, on this 1990 Mustang we're working on today. You can barely tell the license plate lights are on now. They're so burned out and yellowed, not even lighting up the license plate whatsoever. This creates a safely issue. It also creates a legal issue if you're plates are not visible at night. It's a very simple install. We're going to show you how to fix it.

We have a combination of problems with a license plate light. First of all, both of the license plate lenses are yellowed and cracked, it's reducing light output. Our bulbs are also not very bright anymore. We'll show you how to replace them.

First step, turn the lights off because the bulbs do get hot. We're going to start by removing those two screws that hold the housing on. We'll pull the housing down. We're going turn the socket to remove it from the lens. Start by replacing the bulb. Now we'll install the new lens with the new gasket. We're going to make sure not to over tighten these screws as the plastic will crack pretty easily.

Now we'll test the lights. You can see a huge difference in the one we replaced versus our original. Now we're ready to move on to the other side. A couple minutes of work made a huge difference. Not only is that license plate visible now, it's also legal. Installation will literally take you less than five minutes. You'll be back on the road in no time.
