The first step is going to be to support your hatch. Like I said, this thing is pretty heavy, so make sure you've got something beefy holding it up. Now we're ready to remove our hatch struts. The only tools needed for installation are going to be a small screwdriver or a pick and Phillips head screwdriver.
We're going to start by releasing it from the hatch side. Most want to slide the screwdriver underneath the round portion here. Pull back on it and remove. Now we're going to remove the two screws that hold the bracket to the body side. Now we can remove our assembly. Now remove this little tab off the other side to remove it from the bracket.
Now we're going to install our new hatch struts on the bracket before we reinstall it. We want to make sure to install it with the body upward with the chrome part at the bottom. Press on and it will lock into place.
Now we're ready to put it back on the car. Line it up, reinstall the factory hardware. To install the strut to the hatch side you'll have to lift the hatch up a little bit. You want to remove your support first. Then push it up as high as you can and pop it into place. Now you want to repeat the process on the other side.
Now our hatch opens exactly like it's supposed to. Installation should take you no more than about 10 minutes. You'll be back on the road in no time.
