There are so many factors that go into buying a car nowadays, especially a Mustang! The 2015 Mustang was a huge jump over the outgoing S197 with an updated GT engine, the introduction of the turbo-fed 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine, independent rear suspension, updated interior and much more.

For the 2018 model year, Ford has thrown even more technology at the S550 and made it an even more desirable car to almost any automotive enthusiast out there. With such great technological advances and an ever-growing popular front fascia change, it’s no wonder you’re probably contemplating trading in your current Mustang (or other vehicle) and picking up a 2018 Mustang for yourself.

2018 Mustang Transmissions

The new 2018 Mustang has a few different upgrades when it comes to the available transmission options. Most notably is the all-new 10R80 10-Speed Automatic Transmission which was actually co-developed with General Motors and used in both the Camaro ZL1 and new Raptor. Having driven the 2017 F-150 Raptor, there’s no doubt that this transmission is going to deliver better-than-ever acceleration to the Mustang GT at a staggering sub-4 second 60 MPH sprint.

For those stick-shift fans out there, there are some updates to the MT-82 6-Speed Manual Transmission as well! According to Ford, the MT-82 has been upgraded for optimal torque capability. On top of that, the EcoBoost models receive a beefier clutch to handle the increase in torque to 350 lb-ft. And perhaps the most exciting news is that the GT models will now feature a twin-disc clutch for better pedal feel and torque management.

Another feature to point out is the no-lift-shift on all models with all engines across all gears. How awesome is that?

2018 Mustang Digital Instrument Cluster

Next up is the 12” LCD digital instrument cluster, new for the 2018 model year. This is one cool feature that definitely sets the 2018 apart from the rest of the 2015-2017 model years. Even though it’s not standard, those who get the optional digital gauge cluster on their 2018 won’t be disappointed. Normal, Sport+ and Track all have different gauge layouts that are truly customized towards your type of driving. If you frequent the autocross or road course and reside in Track mode, the emphasis is on the tachometer across the entire top of the cluster.

2018 Mustang MagneRide Damping System

Derived from the GT350 and GT350R, a lot of Mustang fans are excited about getting this kind of technology on the run-of-the-mill Mustang EcoBoost and GT. MagneRide consists of a computer-controlled suspension system that tightens and loosens the shocks and struts individually at dozens of times per second as you run your 2018 Mustang around the track. This is achieved using a magnetically charged fluid that will change consistency when a charge is applied to the fluid. Very cool technology!

2018 Mustang GT Gen 3 5.0L Coyote Engine

Next up is the brand new version of the ever-popular Coyote engine in the Mustang GT. First off, we’re proud to say for the first time ever that the 5.0L is actually a 5.0L in terms of cubic inches with a slightly wider bore to 5.035 liters. On top of that, we’re seeing the latest technology with the addition of direct injection to aid the port-side injection. This will add torque down low; which a lot of previous Coyote owners complained of. On top of that, Ford was able to up the compression to 12.0:1 which will aid efficiency and power. Speaking of which, horsepower is now up to 460 at 7,000 RPM and torque has been bumped to 420 ft-lb at 4,600 RPM. We’re truly excited to see the potential of this engine with modifications as well!
