If you're experiencing play in the door latch of your '79 through '93 Mustang, before you out and buy an expensive door latch, you'll want to check your door striker bushing. Many times this bushing has failed or gone altogether and that's going to cause a lot of play in your door latch.

The door striker bushing is going to be located right here on the door striker. In the case of our '90 GT it's completely gone, which is causing some of the play we're getting in our door. As you can see we have a decent amount of up and down play in our door and our door pins are good so the striker bushing is probably causing the problem.

Ford used this same striker bushing in all '71 through '93 Mustangs. Installation is very simple. The only tool required is going to be a T50 Torx bit. Simply remove the striker. Once we have the striker off, remove the washer, unthread the striker from the catch, install the new striker bushing, install the washer, then reinstall on the car, and your installation's finished.

It's only a small inexpensive bushing, but it makes a huge difference. The door closes nice and tight now. All of our play is also gone from the door. Installation should literally take you less than a minute and you'll be back on the road in no time.
