This kit is highlighted by a dual plane intake manifold that is manufactured from a high-quality aluminum material with a natural finish. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Read this, I installed this kit I installed this kit on a 1966 mustang with a 302 in it. This kit comes with basically everything you need to redo the top end on your 289 or 302. To clear up some of the confusion in the questions, this will work on any 302 or 289 as long as it is NOT a roller motor, I used a 1985 302 block. The kit DOES inlcude guide plates already installed on the heads and does NOT include rocker arms, just to clear that up also. I purchased a new edelbrock carburetor (edelbrock 1406) to go with this kit, and had to get a throttle lever adapter from edelbrock to get it to work with the stock throttle linkage, so keep that in mind. Also, if you're using an edelbrock carb, the fuel goes in on the passenger side of the carb while your fuel pump is on the driver's side of the block. I recommend edelbrock 8126 to remedy this problem, it brings the fuel inlet up to the front of the carb, still on the passenger side, but much easier to get to. Mostly, be sure to read all instuctions included in the kit and take your time (I had to redo my intake seal because I rushed through the last parts). All in all, it's a great kit and a much cheaper way to make power than buying an engine that's already built. If you're on the fence about this, I would highly recommend it, it's a great way to put a little more pep in your Mustang. (Just one more recommendation, I installed this with a set of Hooker long tube headers and a 2.5 inch flowmaster header back exhaust system, sounds amazing, very aggressive sound but not excessively loud)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Add to my 1966 stock 289 mustang Kit was complete, and bolted right on. I ordered the competition cams roller rockers as recommended in the comments here (comp cams roller rockers part # 1442-16). The engine definitely has more power and is sharper in response to the accelerator, the revs come up much faster than the stock cam and heads. I highly recommend this. One note, I bought the edelbrock AVS2 carb, and it recommends 4 psi on the fuel line, if you go this route, also order a fuel pressure regulator as my stock pump put out 7 psi. More psi *may* cause the accelerator pump to leak gas around the casting seal.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Kit seal may, or may not fit your 1968 289 This Edelbrock Top End Engine Kit Power Package E-Street 289/302 comes with a different timing chain cover seal than was originally installed. The seal in the kit comes with a flange on it while the original does not have a flange as shown for the Pony Part - Fel-Pro TCS 45008 Timing Chain Cover Gaskets kit for all 1965-1978 206/289/302/351W V8 engines. The two kits from PonyParts deliver a different seal for the same 1968 mustang 289. When installing the seal with no flange one must make sure the seal with spring is pointing in the correct direction, but the seal with the flange can only be installed one way (from inside) the timing chain cover causing the seal/spring to point in the wrong direction making this the wrong part for my 1968 289. Disappointed there is no mention of this and if someone does install this kit seal in a stock 1968 289, they should also buy stock in an oil company because the design of the seal will not stop the oil from flowing if installed backwards and backwards is the only way this kit seal fits. So, buyer beware. This kit seal may fit some small blocks, but not all the ones that are called out. For someone new to engine overhaul the kit seal will lead the mechanic to install it backwards because of lack of kit provided instruction or notes it is the only way it will fit.

However it turns out that I did not receive all the instruction sheets with the packaged parts. CJ's let me down big time! Zero support now that we've had a failure. Their response, call Edelbrock. Edelbrock's response, not our problem you bought it from CJ's talk to them. Extremely dissatisfied with CJ's and Edelbrock.

What is the largest bore over this kit would fit? I have an old tired '68 289 that needs to be bored out, and I want to do .060 over, but if the kit does not fit, I would do .050, .040 or .030 over. Thanks

I would check with an engine builder but i don't think the bore will matter since it is a top end kit.

Would you recommend bottom end work to be done also with this kit since we are already that far? My motor has been rebuilt once stock. Not sure on my compression. Need to get checked
