Are you looking for an iconic shifter for your 1983-2001 Mustang? Purchase this Hurst Billet Plus Manual Shifter and feel how crisp your shifts are. Hurst Billet Plus Shifters incorporate a high ratio pivot mechanism for reduced shifter throw and are sturdily constructed for a more positive precise feel when shifting. Self-centering alignment improves 2nd to 3rd up-shift gear changes to reduce the chance of missed shifts.

Shifter Includes:
- Anodized Gold Base
- White 5-Speed Hurst Shift Knob
- Bent Chrome Shifter Handle

Billet Plus Shifter Benefits:
- High Pivot Mechanism
- Reduces Shifter Throw
- Heat Treated Billet Steel Gear
- Adjustable Positive Gear Stops (prevent internal transmission damage)
- Self Centering Alignment

From the factory, the shifter in your manual transmission probably isn't going to be as precise as you want it, especially if you are a performance driver. You can fix that with a better shifter assembly, and there's no better shifter assembly than the products from Hurst.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good upgrade from OEM Upgraded from OEM , still has some trouble downshifting from 4th to 3rd, Problem existed before so not the Hurst Shifter. Much tighter the factory shifter. I had to pull the center console to get the original boot plate back in. Overall its a great upgrade from the factory shifter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it but lock down those screws! I installed this unit in my 1999 mustang cobra. The components are very well made and it improves the looks, ergonomics, shifting precision, and overall fun-factor of driving the car. So why only 3 stars? Here's why... Hurst's method for connecting the chrome handle to the base shift mechanism basically relies on two 3/8-24 button head screws which clamp the handle to the mechanism stalk. There is no pinning or keying or positive engagement at all...just friction, granted the surfaces are knurled a bit to provide some bite. The screws have no lock washers or jam nuts or anything to prevent them from vibrating or working loose over time...which they did in about 300 miles of use, resulting in ~1/4" of play at the ball. I disassembled everything to see what was up and sure enough both screws were loose...and I had 1000% torqued these before I buttoned up the installation as I was concerned this might happen. So what I ended up doing is a.) swapped in longer button head screws b.) added split lock washers c.) added lock tight d.) add jam nuts on the other end of the screws (they thread all the way through) and e.) epoxied the mating knurled surfaces of the parts.  Short of welding the 2 pieces together, I'm hoping this will keep it stable...like forever. So if you buy this, please do something to lock down those screws as I feel they WILL come loose on you over time. I'm a little (OK, a lot) disappointed that Hurst couldn't provide a more positive way to key the arm to the base mechanism and provide better methods for locking the screws in place. I can't imagine this would add more than a couple of bucks to the manufacturing cost of this unit.

Would this work with a t5 (unknown year) in a 1966 mustang, and if so how much modification would it require?

Asked by: Samuel289
This one should work fine, any t-5 shifter should work. There should be any modification for most shifters although some may require some trimming of the shifter hole in the floor.
