Pertronix Ignition Power Relay Kit for all 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1985 Mustangs.

Pertronix's Ignitor II and III ignition systems require a full +12V power connection between the ignition switch and the positive coil terminal. This requires bypassing the ballast resistor or resistance wire. In many cases, the original resistance wire is buried in the vehicle's wiring harness. Adding a Pertronix power relay will eliminate digging through the wiring harness and replacing wires. This 30 AMP relay kit can also be used with the original Ignitor conversion kits as well.

Benefits:
-Minimizes conducted voltage spikes by isolating the ignition power source from other high current equipment
-Provides consistent full battery voltage. No more voltage fluctuations from over loaded ignition switches
-Eliminates problems from worn-out and corroded ignition switches, connectors and wires
-Universal design that works with most battery ignition systems
-Small size to keep your engine bay looking stock

Vehicle Fitment

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for going from 6v coil to 12v coil This made my life so much easier. I installed the 12v flame thrower coil and found my 67 mustang has a resistor wire going to the original coil with 6v and the new coil needs 12v. Vs cutting and splicing wires behind the dash this relay makes the process simple. The relay is energized by the 6v coil wire so the relay can then supply a 12v power source to the coil. Simple to install and works perfect. 4 wires one to ground, one from original coil wire one to the battery and one from the relay to the new coil. Everything needed is included

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT PRODUCT I own a 1965 Mustang that I installed a 302 with 600 Holley, headers, aluminum intake and HEI distributor. Powering the distributor through the factory wiring, with the resistor wire,I knew the HEI distributor was not getting optimum power but figured it was "good enough." But the idle was a bit rough unless the mixture was set very rich. Hooked up the Pertronix and it fired right up. Turned the key off as instructed and it shut down. No need to install the included diode. Was able to lean out the idle mixture screws about 1/2 ro 3/4 turns each and the idle is much smoother. Throttle response seems better too. If you're running an HEI system in an older vehicle you either have to rewire your car to get rid of the resistor wiring or get this relay.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Installation Took about 15-20 minutes to install. Seems to be working fine but I have only put 20+ miles on the vehicle since installing but I understand it will prevent problems in the future.

i have a hei dist. will the power relay kit work to get 12volts?

Asked by: easy money
Yes it will. I installed one in my 1965 Mustang with an HP-99F 302 with HEI distributor. Runs noticeably better than when running through the factory ignition resistor wiring.

I have the pertronics 11 points and pertronics 11 coil in my car. I am wondering if the Per2001 ignition booster is important for these components to work right.
