One of the first requirements when installing a new or replacement steel roller cam is the addition of a bronze distributor gear. This part is necessary in the prevention of wear and tear, don't ruin your new steel roller cam by using an incompatible distributor gear.

A stock cast iron gear will not be compatible with a steel camshaft, the use of the stock gear can potentially cause severe damage to internal components. COMP Cams gears are each machined from AMPCO-45 extruded aluminum bronze with 5% Nickel added for increase durability and a product that is much less likely to fail. AMPCO-45 extruded aluminum bronze possess a non-sparking property, making it an ideal material to be used for internal mechanical components where sparking would be a potential problem, such as in the engine bay of your Mustang.
