1. The first step for installing your new Mustang Trufiber TC10024-LG34 Carbon Fiber Taillight Panel with Hole is to gather the required tools together for the project.
2. It is important to remember that, for proper adhesion of the included four double-sided tape strips on the trim panel, the temperature must be at least 70 degrees, as noted by the thermometer.
3. You are now ready to inspect the product and verify that you have the correct Trufiber part, before you completely unwrap it. The product has been carefully packed in protective wrapping and packing tape.
4. Use scissors to carefully cut the packing tape on each end of the panel. On the inside of the panel, make sure to protect the carbon finish on the front from marring as you remove the packing materials.
5. Inspect the front of your Mustang taillight panel for any issues with the finish before installation. Make sure to note the proper orientation for installation. The panel is properly installed with the curves on the ends aligned at the top and the three weep holes on the bottom edge.
6. Flip the Trufiber taillight panel over, keeping it on the packing material to protect the finish. Peel approximately 2 inches of the blue backing on each of the four individual tape pieces that are attached to the backside of the panel. Then, fold the four ends over at a 90 degree angle, facing out, to create a pull tab on each of the four tape pieces. On the ends, you'll want the pull tab to pull from the top down, and on the bottom pieces, pull from the outsides in. This will create four sticky points on the four corners of the panel. The purpose of this is to allow you to attach the panel on the rear deck without full adhesion, so you can line it up for the final fitting.
7. Clean the rear deck of the trunk lid where the four 3M tape strips attach by using the alcohol prep pad or rubbing alcohol and your microfiber car cloth, which will remove any wax. It is imperative that any wax be removed from the vehicle at the contact areas for the tape, so there is proper adhesion of the panel. As a reminder, the trim panel must be installed at a temperature of 70 degrees or higher for proper adhesion of the four 3M tape strips.
8. If you choose to use them, prepare the two micro bar clamps by putting two 2 inch pieces of painter’s tape on the clamp faces, which will protect the finish of the carbon fiber panel as you install it. The clamps will aid with the final placement of the panel and the adhesion of the 3M tape strips, especially if you are doing this project by yourself.
9. Fit your Trufiber panel to the rear deck, making sure that the four pull tabs are showing at each of the sides. It will be a tight fit around the Mustang faux fuel door/trunk emblem. Inspect to make sure that the circular opening of the center of the panel is completely behind the entire edge of your trunk emblem before final adhesion of the 3M strips.
10. If you're using the micro clamps with the painter’s tape, set them up so they're gripping the Mustang taillight panel at or near the 3M tape strips. Then, once the panel is aligned in it's final position, pull gently on the four pull tabs to apply all of the tape to the trunk lid. Apply pressure to the deck lid with the micro clamps for a minute or so to help set the 3M adhesive tape.
11. After a few minutes, remove the clamps and then admire your handiwork. This Mustang Trufiber Carbon Fiber Taillight Panel with Hole gives your Mustang a show quality look that also pays homage to the ’69 Boss 302. For upkeep, just wash and wax as necessary. I chose to replace my trunk emblem just before I started to install the new taillight panel. If you also plan to replace your emblem, do so before installing this taillight panel, as the emblem requires a pry tool for removal and would damage the new taillight panel. The two projects together really give your rear deck area a bold new look that many Chevy and Mopar owners will be now admiring at the far end of your local 1/4 mile drag strip.
