Mustang Racing Technologies Hood Struts for 2005-2014 Mustangs.
The Original No-drill MRT hood struts. These aftermarket Mustang hood struts eliminate the factory hood prop rod and give you the clean, pleasing appearance every engine compartment deserves.
Requiring NO holes drilled anywhere, the hood struts attach using OEM factory attachment points for a direct bolt-on installation. Installation only requires a 10mm wrench!
These are designed to function with the OE weighted hood.
Available pre-painted in many of the factory Ford colors. The two digit code after each color in the drop down menu is the Ford paint code. Please verify your Mustang's paint code prior to ordering.
*Black does not match a paint code. The carbon fiber struts have a carbon fiber look but are not made of carbon fiber.
With all the advancements found under the hood of the new Mustangs, for some reason, Ford stills chooses to hold that hood up with a prop rod. Thankfully, it’s an easy problem to fix using this no-drill hood strut kit from MRT. The MRT Hood Strut Kit’s going to fit your 2005 through 2014 Mustang. It’s available in all the factory colors. It’s also available in carbon fiber. There’s two brackets that mount on your factory hood hinges, two brackets that will mount to the top of the fender, and includes these struts, as well. The struts are universal, but the brackets are side specific so you want to grab both matching brackets for the side you’re working on. We’re going to start with the left-hand side.
For this installation you’ll have to remove the fender bolt located here, remove just the upper hood bolt, and we’re going to loosen the lower hood bolt. The only tool required for installation is a 10 mm socket. Now I’m going to put the bracket in place and put the fender bolt back on. I’ll remove the top bolt. We’re just going to loosen this bolt just enough to get the bracket to slide underneath it. The hood will flex on the hinge a little, but it will not come off. We’ll tighten it up just to hold it in place, and then you’ll want to slide the bracket up and just line it up with the other hole. Now you’ll want to install the strut itself on the bracket. Make sure the strut body is on the top, and slide these little orange tabs down to make it easier to pop on. At this point you’ll want to lift the hood off of your prop rod. Make sure you hold it, and lock the struts with the tabs. Now you’ll want to repeat the process on the other side.
Since we have no use for it anymore, we’re going to remove our stock prop rod, and our installation’s finished. See how nice and smoothly our hood goes up with our new hood struts. The struts are designed only to use with a factory hood so if you do have an aftermarket hood, we don’t recommend the use of this kit. Installation should take you no more than about 20 minutes. You’ll be back on the road in no time.
